Monotype Fonts
Enhancement: Classification of fonts as tiers
Monotype Fonts now employs a structured and unique way to organize, identify, and manage its font inventory.
We have categorized our font inventory into distinct collections or tiers based on their attributes that make them unique. All fonts belonging to a tier other than standard are marked with a star icon . The production font count of these starred fonts can be more than one. You can hover over the star icon to learn the tier type of the font and its production font count.
When not starred, a font belongs to a standard tier and is equivalent to one production font.
Categorizing the fonts in tiers does not change the functionality, attributes, and performance of fonts. For example, a variable font will remain a variable font (with all its attributes such as greater variability, compression, improved performance, and dynamic text effects) even after it gets a star icon. So, all the procedures (such as search, adding to My Library, syncing, or favoriting) to use the fonts remain the same.
Following font tiers are available on our platform:
Standard
Variable

Note: Contact [email protected] for any query or click the chat icon in lower right corner of this page.
Some of the benefits of organizing fonts in tiers are:
Improved user experience
Streamlined navigation into our font inventory
Improved font search and selection process
Easier identification of font type and its offering
Scalability to accommodate future expansions in font categories
Increased accessibility to fonts. You can now access the fonts belonging to a particular tier type.
Increased usability of fonts depending on their categories (tiers). Identifying a tier will help you search and use a font belonging to a specific tier type.
Improved tracking and reporting of the correct number of production fonts used by you. The production font count of a font is related to its tier. So, font tiering will help in reporting the correct number of production fonts used by a customer.
