How does the quarterly font licensing cycle work?

Font licensing on Monotype Fonts follows a quarterly cycle with clearly defined stages:

  1. During the quarter: Users sync, download, and use fonts as needed. Admins mark fonts as production when required, and designers can request that fonts be reviewed and approved for production use.

  2. At the end of the quarter: A 21‑day reporting window opens. During this time, admins review the quarter’s font usage and submit the licensing report.

  3. After the report is submitted: The report is archived in the License dashboard, and the next quarterly cycle begins.

Admins receive email reminders and see an in‑product banner notification when the reporting window opens.


How to submit the quarterly production font usage report?

The quarterly utilization report offers a detailed view of your users’ activities, including which users are accessing fonts, which fonts they’re accessing, and more. The reporting process helps you to ensure that your users are following existing licensing agreements.

You can submit your report within 21 days after the end of every quarter. There will be email messages and banner notification on the Monotype Fonts platform to remind you about this timeline. Ensure that you submit your report within this timeline.

If you are an admin user, use the following steps to submit your quarterly production font usage report:

  1. Click Start reporting from the banner or email.

    The Fonts for review page displays.

  2. Check the Fonts for review section and ensure that you haven’t missed including any fonts from the production font report.

    You can also select and accept/deny the production fonts here.

  3. Click Reviewed. The Confirmed production fonts page (for the previous quarter) displays.

  4. Click Submit report.

  5. Click Submit to submit this report.

    Once submitted, your report will be accessible from the Quarterly reports section of License dashboard. You (and all the company admins) will also receive the email message to notify about your quarterly report submission.
