Monotype Fonts is a vast collection of high-quality premium fonts. But there can be a situation when you require a certain font that is no longer available or is about to be delisted from our inventory.
This article explains all such scenarios and possible actions that you can take when this happens.
Note: You can either search for a font similar to the delisted font on our platform or contact our support team. You can also click on the chat icon in the lower right corner of this page.
Why is a font no longer available on Monotype Fonts?
There could be many reasons for a font to leave our inventory (delisted). For example,
The foundry is rebranding its font inventory.
The font is incompatible with newer system versions.
The contract with the foundry has expired.
Delisted fonts are often the result of changing industry trends, technological advancements, foundry rebranding, and legal considerations.
Can I use a font that is no longer available?
When a font is removed (delisted) from the Monotype Fonts inventory, you may lose the right to use it.
However, if you want to continue using the fonts that are leaving the Monotype Fonts platform you can contact our support team or click the chat icon in the lower right corner of this page.
How will I know that a font is scheduled to be delisted from the inventory of Monotype Fonts?
When a font or font family is scheduled to be delisted from Monotype Fonts’ inventory, a message appears at least thirty days before the planned delisting date:
Leaving soon message on the Browse page when you are searching for fonts.
On the family and font pages for that font.
On the font style page.
On the family page, when you click Family details.
Click View to open the Fonts leaving soon modal. It lists all the font styles of that family with their date of delisting. If you want to continue using these fonts, you can either click to search for a similar font or contact our support team.
For example, Lazarrous is a font similar to the font Chronicle.
When you add a soon-to-be-delisted font to a font list, a message is shown on the font and family rows of that font list.
Click View to open the Fonts leaving soon modal.
A message will also appear on the Favorites and Synced fonts pages, if any soon to leave fonts are present in the list of favorite or synced fonts.
Frequently asked questions
Will the Leaving soon message also appear on My Library page?
Yes, if any font in the font list is delisted by the foundry, leaving soon message will be shown at the top of the font list and next to the font and family that is scheduled for delisting.
How are fonts sorted in the Fonts leaving soon modal?
Fonts are sorted based on their dates of unavailability. Fonts set to be delisted sooner appear at the top of the list, followed by those that are scheduled to leave at later dates. When two fonts share the same delisting date, they are sorted alphabetically.
Can I synchronize (sync) and download the delisted fonts?
No, once a font is delisted it will not be available to you unless you've already named that font for production. Contact our customer support for continued usage of such a font style.
Note: Font downloads and availability depend on your subscription plan and agreement with Monotype.
If a font that is set to be delisted is used in a live web project or digital ad, what will happen to the web project/digital ad after that font is no longer available?
Web projects and digital ads will continue to contain fonts that are no longer available. Those fonts will still be displayed in the web projects and digital ads on the Monotype Fonts platform.
Note: Contact our customer support team or click the chat icon in the lower right corner of this page if required.
Will the currently unavailable fonts used in web projects/digital ads have any rendering issues?
No, the unavailable fonts will be rendered properly, just as they did before their unavailability.
